About the event

During this series, cohorts of fathers and sons will take to the wild to learn essential aspects of wilderness survival, deepen connections and intimacy with each other, and develop a profound sense of self-belonging in the world. From mauka (mountain) to makai (sea), all workshops in the series operate in the beautiful and wild Kona district on the west side of Hawai’i Island. The practices of the Core Routine of Deep Nature Connection will guide us on this adventure to explore the vast landscapes of our outer and inner worlds!

Workshop 3 - Shelter Building, Date~November 5 & 6:

In this workshop, father and son pairs will learn different techniques and designs for constructing debris shelters. After which, participants are invited to put their skills to the test by building a shelter that they spend the night in. Learn the skills to be at home wherever you are! ~ Overnight Workshop

Workshop 4 - Air, Breathwork, and Apnea Training, Date~TBA:

Here participants will take a deep dive into the world of breathwork and apnea training. After learning skills on how the breath affects our physiology, fathers and sons will head to the ocean for a spearfishing adventure. A cookout of our day's catch will follow! ~ Full-Day Workshop

Workshop 5 - Rite Of Passage, Date~TBA:

Since ancient times, all cultures have recognized the need for rites of passage. Knowing ourselves, what we are capable of, and what we can offer the world is probably the most important survival skill of all.  Here fathers and sons will be guided on an experience to increase intimacy and belonging with themselves, each other, and all of life on the planet. ~ Overnight Workshop

"I can't say enough great things about our 'Journey into the Na'au'. My kids and I learned so much. Each day we began by asking the forest for permission to enter, and it was amazing how our ears and eyes opened up to seeing and hearing things that we hadn't noticed before. From identifying local medicinal plants and herbs, edible foods, learning how to make a 5 minute fire, climbing trees, knife safety, shelter building, Mariah was able to cater the camp to exactly what our family was interested in. Mariah has a deep knowledge of nature skills intertwined with the Hawaiian culture and it made for a beautiful and memorable experience that we won't forget. Thanks so much Mariah!!" - Beth Winder

"Thank you, Mariah, for providing such an immersive nature experience for my children. Through your camps, my children have developed skills, passion, and reverence for nature that they will carry with them far into the future. Your dedication to honoring Hawaiian culture and the gifts our elders have left us is inspiring, and I am profoundly grateful!" -Steve

The joy my son expresses on a Journey day is worth a hundred 5 star review. Mariah's ease with nature, children, and Hawaiian culture is organic. I am thankful for the lessons and teachings she shares, and the unique opportunity she provides to enhance my child's daily life through nature mentoring. (P.S. always send extra extra pants. For real!) - Anna
