About the event
Experience the magic of deeply connecting with the natural world in a fun and inspiring way! Through nature mentoring, bird language, and mindfulness participants will learn about our island, the Cloud Forest, and the importance of protecting tropical ecosystems. Our Nature Mentors will also use a combination of outdoor educational philosophies, local knowledge, and place-based education to develop relationships with Hawaii's incredibly diverse plants, trees, birds, and animals.Â
We will use inspirational ancestral wisdom and traditional mo'olelo (storytelling) to introduce the endemic, native plants, local wild edibles, and la'au lapa'au (healing plants) of the Cloud Forest. This immersion experience offers a beautiful opportunity to cultivate a sense of connection by sharing concepts of Aloha and Malama Aina (to love and respect the land). Lastly, we will discuss ways to incorporate these transformational practices into their daily lives to help them become confident and resilient in every environment.
This program is led by Mariah Mann, an experienced and well-known nature immersion educator with over 20 years of experience working with children in our Hawaii island community. Mariah is trained and certified in widely respected outdoor educational philosophies: Coyote Mentoring, the Art of Mentoring, and Sharing Nature with Children.
