About the event
NATURE| CULTURE| RESILIENCE|JOY Â
Over the years, I focused on remembering my ancestral wisdom, on getting lots of "dirt time," and honing my survival skills because my na'au told me that this knowledge would be needed during these times. During our workshop, we will be teaching the fundamentals of outdoor survival skills: how to build a shelter, make a fire, forage for food, medicine, and water, and we can't forget one of the most essential survival skill, awareness!Â
We will awaken participant's sensory awareness through fun and exciting awareness games. We will also focus on what our ancestors were doing this time of year. We will discuss traditional activities, such as harvesting & drying seasonal la'au (plants), observing the moon phases, and storytelling. Â
Our Experienced Mentoring Team are:
- Are well known and respected Mentors in our community with over 20 years of experience working with children

"I can't say enough great things about our 'Journey into the Na'au'. My kids and I learned so much. Each day we began by asking the forest for permission to enter, and it was amazing how our ears and eyes opened up to seeing and hearing things that we hadn't noticed before. From identifying local medicinal plants and herbs, edible foods, learning how to make a 5 minute fire, climbing trees, knife safety, shelter building, Mariah was able to cater the camp to exactly what our family was interested in. Mariah has a deep knowledge of nature skills intertwined with the Hawaiian culture and it made for a beautiful and memorable experience that we won't forget. Thanks so much Mariah!!" - Beth Winder
