About the event
"He waʻa he moku, he moku he waʻa
(The canoe is our island, and the island is our canoe)
On Moku o Keawe, Big Island of Hawaii, we will come together to celebrate and learn deep nature connection: a way of life in Polynesia. We will explore ways to Aloha and Malama Aina (to love and respect the land) through deep nature connection. Just how the people of Polynesia have done for millennia.
Our days will be a mixture of:
- Grounding through storytelling (mo'olele), pule and mele (song), and connection to the elements (Ke Ala o Ka Mahina).
- Adventuring in magic spots from the mauka (mountains) to the makai (ocean)
- Sensory awareness activities and Forest Bathing that develop a closer bond with flora and fauna of Hawaii.
- Free time to further unwind or enjoy new friendships
- Additional extras of learning la'au lapa'au (the Hawaiian healing plants/medicine) and Lomi Lomi (massage).
Together we will pause and listen to the earth again (on an island that still rumbles under your feet) and remember the way of our collective ancestors; this powerful knowing will instill a sense of awe and magic not only for ourselves but for our whole family (or the young learners we work with). This is an opportunity to come together to celebrate our journeys, replenish our life force energy (mana), learn and laugh together!

Katie Earle (Bush Farm School, Aotearoa New Zealand) has been on a quest for meaningful connection with self, others, and nature which has led her on a 15-year journey around the world. It wasn’t until her Ah-ha moment when she began to slow down and take note of what was happening around her. She was selected to take part in Aoraki Bound, a 15-day journey with Ngāi Tahu, (a tribe of New Zealand). This experience of journeying deeper into place was a huge awakening with immediate repercussions with her work with her clients (young and old) in both Aotearoa/NZ and in Alaska. She is passionate about place-based journeys, living simply and awakening awe and magic to all those who come by.
